Class 9 Bangladesh & Global Studies Assignment Solution

Bengali was the spoken language of 57% of the total population of Pakistan. And only 4% of the people in Pakistan spoke Urdu. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan in 1950 declared Urdu to be the national language of Pakistan and later on 26 January 1952 the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Khwaja Nazimuddin declared in a public meeting in Dhaka that Urdu would be the state language of Pakistan.

At that time the students started a movement and took out a procession violating section 144. Police opened fire on the procession, some were killed. This is the first time that people of any country in the world have died for language. Therefore, 21st is celebrated as Martyr’s Day and International Language Day.

Later, the language movement achieved its goal by approving Bengali as the state language of Pakistan along with the Pakistan National Assembly in 1958. In 1996, a law was passed in the National Assembly of Bangladesh to use Bengali as a language of all walks of life. In order to give an extreme lesson to the East Pakistan Muslim League in the elections, on 4 December 1953, several opposition parties formed the United Front and had 21 points.

Later, the then Governor General of Pakistan Ghulam Mohammad dissolved the Fazlul cabinet on 30 May 1954 and imposed the central rule of East Bengal. At the All-Party National Solidarity and Conference held in Lahore on 5 February 1966, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced a program on the political, economic and defense demands of East Pakistan.

In history it is known as the Six Point Program. On the 21st of February, a pamphlet titled Bangabandhu Demands Our Survival was published. Later in the press conference Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman officially announced six points. The six-point day, known as the Charter of Liberation of the Bengali Nation, is celebrated. As a result of the mass uprising of 1969, President Ayub Khan withdrew from politics on March 25, 1969, handing over power to General Aga Mohammad Yahya Khan, the chief of the Pakistani army.
